Wonderful Things, Part 3

This addition to my list of wonderful things is a little strange. it's more of a poncy, arty, spiritual side of me that finds them fascinating, however i'll try best to explain myself.

This is a seahorse. i think they are truly incredible beings. here's some information on seahorses, for those that are not familiar with the species:

   Seahorses are, in fact, fish. they reside in the same family as pipefish.
2. 
   
   Their latin name, Hippocampus, means "horse caterpillar".
3. 
   
   Their eyes work individually, much the same as a chameleon. this means they can look forward AND backward, at the same time.
4. 
   
   Seahorses eat small crustaceans, such as mysis shrimp. they will consume around 30-50 of these a day. Youngsters, however, will consume around 6000 food items a day. i'd imagine it's because they are much smaller food items, but still. incredible.

It is the last fact, however, that draws me to them. They mate for life, and courtship involves colour changes and also a dance where the pair will circle around one another, and/or an object.

now, this bit's amazing, so i'm going to quote it straight from the Seahorse Trust website.

"The male is the only creature where the male has a true reversed pregnancy. The female transfers her eggs to the male which he self fertilises in his pouch. The number of eggs can vary from 50-150 for smaller species to 1500 for larger species.
They receive everything they need in the pouch from oxygen to food. Gestation time varies from 14 days to 4 weeks. Giving birth can be a long process with contractions lasting upto 12 hours."

Now if that isn't wonderful, i don't know what is. It's the ultimate androgynism. I think that's why i'm fond of them. I'll probably regret saying this, but it'd be nice to share the workload every once in a while, and give girls the opportunity to have a breather from this whole maternal childbirth dealio.

I've got things to post about

not really. i'm going to ramble on for a while.

it's 5 days until talk like a pirate day! how terribly exciting. i can't wait to get my swashbuckler on. It's also 6 days until i start work for Vanquis International, a Bank that specialises in people with bad credit ratings.
I can't say im hugely excited for the work, but I can say this: i cannot WAIT to start earning some real money.

Despite the fact that i am qualified to work with animals. however i suppose there cant be much difference in feeding chimpanzees and providing customer service for the townspeople of medway.

 they both provide a wide range of vocalisations that can be compared slightly to human communication, after all.
the point being, once the money starts rolling in, i'm getting this beauty tattooed onto me.

Psalmopoeus irminia, or the Venezuelan Sun Tiger Tarantula. I've been planning it for far too long.
None other than David Corden is to be performing the hurtful body painting, however it's well worth it.

i urge anyone who lives in the southeast and wants a realistic, very well done tattoo, to visit him at Ritual Art Tattoo in rainham. he's incredible.

Wonderful Things part 2

What a lovely day it's been today! I've achieved absolutely nothing, but the weather's been great.
I updated some pictures of the spiders also, i'll chuck them on here later on.

but for now, i'm going to show you some more wonderful stuff!!!

The first of my cluster of things is The Street Sketchbook. It includes some fantastic artwork, and secret stuff from the sketchbooks of artists like Banksy.

Wonderful Things are out there, part 1

Bon Iver is a wonderful band. I am totally immersed by their music at the moment.

Manis temminckii, or ground pangolin. They are enigmatic, yet fascinating creatures. They are insectivorous, and reside in South and Eastern Africa. I hope to see one of these one day.

Some things that made me laugh today

Morning all, it's 2:29am. a whole minute since my last post, and way past my bedtime. Lets laugh at things!

Since i've entered the real world very recently, and since a friend recommended me get some stuff down, i thought i'd start a new blog.

I've started others before this, but haven't got very far with them. So let's try again.
